IBBT 2008 - Rally @ Lake of the Ozarks Results

Lake of the Ozarks welcomed us with a MUCH different look this year than the last two. Heavy rains over the last month had the lake level above normal for April and the water in a real mess. One could find water anywhere from 48° to 58°, and clarity ranged from 18” inches to wondering if your bait would actually sink!

We kept IBBT tradition alive with a slight cold front blowing in on Friday.  Although it wasn't nearly as severe as years past, it was enough to drop water temps 4-6 degrees by Saturday.  It was typical Missouri spring weather though, where if you didn't like the weather, wait a day and it would change.  We had sun, clouds, wind, rain and FOG through the extended weekend.  Day 2 take off was delay 2 1/2 hours due to heavy fog.  Weigh in was extended 1 hour to give the anglers atleast 4 hours to fish.

Those anglers that showed up early joined the crowd for the "Shake & Bake"  Thursday Night Fish Fry.  A fish fry complere with taters and hush puppies!  A great meal and a great start to some catching up with old friends!  Thanks Dale and Mike

This year we opted not to order IBBT Hats based on the feedback from anglers in the past.  Instead, we provided a Friday night dinner in addition to Saturday night dinner.  Lazy Lou's catered both dinners and did an outstanding job!  Lasagna on Friday night, and a huge BBQ meal for Saturday night!  If you're in that area again, stop by Lazy Lou's and enjoy another fine meal!

Ivan "Pimp Daddy" Williams and Danny "The Snake" Collier took top honors once again.  This is 3 in a row for the duo, but they'll be the first to admit that their streak was on the verge of coming to an end.  After a impressive bag on Day 1, falling just short of 19 lbs, Ivan and Danny struggled to boat fish on Day 2.  Just 20 minutes before check in, they only had 2 fish in the well.  However 2 nice fish in that last 20 minutes helped them seal the deal.  Like most of the field, a spinnerbait was their primary bait.

Chuck "Fluker" Campbell and Brent "Fishnut" Haimes took the runner up position with 24.37 lbs.  They covered as much water as they could with reactions baits (Spinnerbait & Crankbait) to boat their fish.  One thing is for sure, we have sure learned a lot in the last 3 years at the IBBT.  We've had to fish completely different areas and in different ways each year!

IBBT new comers Dane Johnson and Joe McBride took 3rd place.  The secret is still out on exactly what they were doing, but chances are it followed suit to the rest of the field.  Joe and Dane were the youngest team in the tournament.  There combined age was probably less than that of many of the individuals fishing!  It's great to see good young men like this in our sport!

Taking Big Bass honors were Willams and Collier with a 6.07# brute.  They were presented with the 1st Clint Parks Memorial Big Bass Award.  Clint Parks passed away a few short days after IBBT 2007.  He was a true friend to our tournament, sponsoring (Three Rivers Marine) since the 1st event on Stockton Lake.  Clint was a very familiar face on the Bass Fishing Home Page and provided much needed help to THOUSANDS of anglers on that board.  He will be greatly missed.  Pictured with the winners is Carole Parks, wife of the late Clint Parks,  It was an honor to have Mrs. Parks join in our festivities.

Second Place Big Bass went to Dave "Bassman IA"" Steppuhn and Bill "Ole Smoothie" Mausbach.  They were only 3 hundreths of a pound behind 1st Big Bass at 6.04 lbs!  6 LB fish are becoming something of a norm for this team!

Another great year is in the books.  I'd like to say THANKS again to all the anglers, and a HUGE thanks to our 2008 IBBT sponsors.  Please be sure and drop a note to the sponsors and let them know how much you appreiciate there support!

Last but not least, I'd like to say a special thanks to the 2008 IBBT Staff.  Without their hard work planning and running this event, it would not be nearly as successful as it is!  You guys are one of a kind!!!

Thanks again!!!
